The flamed surface combines mechanical sawing and possible grading processes with a heat treatment carried out with an oxygen and propane gas flame, immediately followed by water cooling. The sudden heating and cooling causes a thin surface crumbling, creating a rough, coarse-textured surface. This type of finish enhances the colour of the product, highlighting its natural features (the basic grey colour, with the occasional brownish red areas and any calcite streaks).
